OREGON HILL BAPTIST CENTER
History
The Oregon Hill Baptist Center is one of three Baptist Centers located in inner-city Richmond. The Center is supported by the churches of the River City Faith Network along with others outside the Network who partner with us to assist our ministries.
The Oregon Hill Center began as the Cary Street Baptist Center on June 7, 1940. In 1974 it was moved to its present location inside of Pine Street Baptist Church, and the name was changed to the Oregon Hill Baptist Center. The Center and Church work very closely in partnership along with many volunteers to reach the community and beyond with the light and love of Jesus Christ.
Currently our services include: a cooked meal to over 100 people every Thursday, a locker room that allows 91 individuals a place to safely keep their important belongings, a clothing closet especially geared towards the unhoused, a mailing address, free haircuts once a month, and the ability to do their laundry twice a month. In addition to these basic need services, we also assist with obtaining ID’s, medication, mentoring, and cooperating with other organizations regarding referrals and working together to guide individuals into self-sufficiency.
